After all the promises of help, the Pakistani government
has forgotten the workers of Kashmir who suffered terribly during the 2005
earthquake. Now the workers are demanding their rights. They need you
solidarity!

In January the Belgian solidarity choir, Hei Pasoep held a concert in
Antwerp and donated the income to the PTUDC sponsored Revolutionary
Solidarity Caravans presently involved in relief work in the areas
devastated by last year’s earthquake. The concert was a huge success
and the people in the camps back in Kashmir have shown their
appreciation.

We are publishing this update on the PTUDC’s Fifth Revolutionary
Solidarity Caravan. The relief goods are being held by the Pakistani
army and we have not yet been able to get them back. We are hoping that
this situation will be resolved sometime next week. In the meantime,
PTUDC supporters in India are organizing another caravan which should
arrive in Pakistan next week. From there it will proceed to Kashmir.

Many generous donations have been made to the Pakistan Earthquake
Appeal that we launched immediately after the disaster hit. Thanks to
these donations several camps have been set up and thousands of people
have been treated and sheltered. Now the Fifth caravan has been hit by
an unnatural disaster, the hands of the thieving Pakistani state!
Please protest at this scandalous behaviour!

The PTUDC’s fourth revolutionary solidarity caravan entered Pakistan
through the Wagah checkpoint from India on November 6. There were four
large trucks on this caravan carrying relief goods including 522 large
tents, 4000 blankets, 300 quilts, 500 bamboos, flour, tea, sugar and
other basic necessities. This is the second caravan to arrive from
India in support of the PTUDC’s relief campaign.

We have all seen the reports in the media about the lack of doctors and
medical supplies in the areas of Kashmir affected by the earthquake. As
a result the PTUDC has established a series of medical camps in
Kashmir. Under the banner of the PTUDC’s “Revolutionary Solidarity
Camp” a team of doctors, composed of comrades from Hyderabad, went to
Rawlakot to provide medical care to the thousands of people who have
yet to receive any. We publish this report from the doctors on their
activities at these camps.

On Wednesday October 26, the regimes on both sides of the
India-Pakistan border finally allowed three truckloads of relief goods
to enter Pakistan from India. This is the third PTUDC solidarity
caravan for Kashmir, and was organised jointly by MPs and PTUDC
supporters in both India and Kashmir.

This article from the English daily DAWN in Pakistan explains that the
team of doctors coming with the Indian relief delegation to go along
with MP Manzoor Ahmed and the Revolutionary Solidarity Caravan have
been denied access to Pakistan. This clearly exposes the rottenness of
the Musharraf regime and shows how little the dictatorship is concerned
about the victims of the earthquake.

PTUDC president, held a press conference at the Lahore Press Club
announcing the launching of the PTUDC solidarity caravan, called “The
Revolutionary Solidarity Caravan”. Manzoor also announced his
programme of demands for the aftermath of the earthquake and criticised

The initial shock of the earthquake in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir is
beginning to turn into anger as millions of people are left without
shelter in the cold and rain. The PTUDC’s international solidarity
campaign has swung into action raising well over £1000 over the last
few days. The response to our appeal has been truly amazing, but we
need to raise more money to pay for the supplies, convoys, and
medicines that we will be sending to the worst affected areas of
Kashmir and Pakistan.

We received this update from Pakistan today detailing the extent of
some of the damage caused by the earthquake and some of the plans for
relief and aid organised by the PTUDC. Our financial appeal has managed
to raise several hundred pounds from around the world in a short amount
of time and we would like to thank all of those who have donated money.
This is only the beginning and we need to raise more money to get the
necessary supplies, such as tents and medicines, to help those who need
it most.

We have just received this urgent appeal from the comrades in Pakistan. The
terrible earthquake that has devastated the north of Pakistan and India has had
its worst effects in Kashmir. As if the inhabitants of this oppressed land had
not suffered enough, nature has now inflicted an appalling calamity that falls
heaviest on the poorest sections of society. We are calling on every member of the international
labour movement to give as generously as possible to the special appeal that we
have launched today.
