The Pakistan Trade Union Defense Campaign executive body met in Lahore on Sunday November 17 in Lahore. The executive unanimously elected Comrade Manzoor Ahmed [Member National Assembly of Pakistan and editor fortnightly magazine Class Struggle] as the president of PTUDC. The slate of other office bearers was voted upon and elected with a majority. They include the following.

Water and Power [WAPDA]: Mohammad Irshad
Telecommunications: Azad Qadri.
Postal Workers: Fazal Abbas Shah.

The executive also finalised the decisions to carry out the following actions in the next six week till its next session. These are the following.

1/The production of a leaflet in November against the anti workers Labour policy 2002 introduced by the present regime. On the basis of this handbill a national campaign will be launched with protest rallies and meetings throughout the country.

2/ A meeting of the main leaders and workers of all the left unions will be organised next week and comrade Manzoor will be invited as the main speaker.

3/Another hand bill will be produced to intervene in the ongoing struggle of the postal workers against the sacking of more than 6000 workers.

4/ To expand the PTUDC base in the telecommunications workers a programme will be published specifically highlighting the problems of the workers of this department and to organise the unions and develop a charter of demands to wage the struggle against the excesses of the administration and against the privatisation of the PTCL.

5/. A country wide campaign of public meetings against the labour policy of the present regime and rallies against the U.S. aggression against Iraq will be organised from the second week of December. This will begin from Karachi and a will end up in Islamabad. Comrade Manzoor will lead this campaign and visit every major city of Pakistan to address these public meetings and rallies.
